Laura Fisher's New Work and Solo Show "Multimodal"
KHN Alum (2020), Laura Fisher, is a visual artist/painter who was recently a resident, and was part of January's Third Thursday Artist Talks. She announced that new work, some of which she created while at KHN, premiered at her recent solo show, Multimodal.
Multimodal: Solo Show at Gallery 417 - Laura Fisher
Laura Fisher showed new work at Gallery 417 from February 13 through March 10, 2020. From Laura: "The show included all the pieces I made during my residency at The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City, Nebraska over the last month. Gallery 417 is in the lobby of the historic Subway Terminal Building in downtown Los Angeles, at 417 S Hill Street (at the corner of Hill & 4th). The opening reception for the show was Thursday February 13 from 6:00 - 8:00pm, and is part of the Downtown Art Walk."
Laura Fisher creates abstracted landscapes with oil paint, working with both subtle and pronounced interplays of color. She constructs visual puzzles which challenge viewers to travel into and over and through enigmatic terrain. Her art practice uses this language of movement through the landscape to communicate the idea of harmony between seemingly disparate concepts.
Ms. Fisher holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan. She resides and works in downtown Los Angeles.
The detail (photo) shows part of "Uprise," a large oil painting Laura discussed in an interview done while she was at KHN about her process and her work, which will be featured on KHN's Instagram and Facebook pages in an upcoming episode of Humans of KHN! Laura also demonstrated how she made an "incubator" in her studio to dry smaller oil works, for transport back to LA. Click on the image to see the full painting. Congratulations, Laura!
