Issue #1 of Cut Me Up Magazine by Andrea Burgay Available Now

Cut Me Up Magazine Issue #1, founded by KHN Alumni Andrea Burgay, is available now through Specious Arts, an independent publisher focusing on releasing visual and recorded work from emerging artists. Cut Me Up Issue #1 is a vibrantly intriguing and is now in its second printing.

Not only visually stunning, but a participatory magazine, Cut Me Up is unique. Each issue of Cut Me Up will present a call, which per Andrea Burgay, entails “a curated selection of original collage images that will become raw material for reader-artists to ‘respond’ by cutting, reconfiguring, and transforming them into new artworks. The newly created ‘responses’ will form the content of the next issue.”

To participate, an artist purchases a copy of the first issue and responds by the deadline for submissions, October 1, 2018. To view the first issue, come to KHN Center for the Arts, as it is now part of our permanent collection. To participate, purchase a copy through the Specious Arts website.

The staff is engaged but is also very conscious of respecting the time and space of each resident. Nebraska City has excellent institutions but still provides a quiet and slow-paced setting. The space and set up were great! This is one of my favorite residencies thus far. The location of the apartment wasn't too far from civilization but also in a good area for it not to be super noisy nor was there lots of traffic or other sounds. The middle school across the street wasn't at all a distraction. I also really loved the dessert spots and greatly appreciated the staff's flexibility and availability to help, answer questions, drive you to the store when needed. All the details were thought of right down to a bathroom mat and miscellaneous supplies available in its own closet.
