Yukari Kaihori
Yukari was born in Japan but growing up moved from Asia to South America, to North America due to her father's job. Her background is traditional Japanese Calligraphy (shodō ), which she began in Brazil at the age of five. At seventeen, after moving to the US, she switched from calligraphy to painting. She mainly works with oil on paper and in recent year with occasional mixed media works. Yukari is based in Wellington New Zealand since 2011. She has exhibited both solo and group exhibitions in New Zealand. She has B.A. in Studio Art from Lewis and Clark College in Oregon, and took some short courses from University of the Arts, Central St. Martin and Chelsea before moving to New Zealand. In 2015 Yukari received Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant award.
