Renee Couture
Renee Couture's work explores the relationship between capitalism, the environment, and one's community. Through the lens of bio-regional ethics and postmodern environmentalism to articulate the complexity of the public's relationship with their surrounding landscape. Both conceptual and formal, her project-based practice moves fluidly between a sculpture, photography, and installation. She often re-contextualizes quotidian materials as signifiers to explore the shifting meanings of places and spaces, and the relationships people have to those places. Couture graduated from Buena Vista University with a BA in Studio Art 1999, and received her MFA in Visual Art from Vermont College of Fine Arts in 2010. When she's not in teaching or working in her studio, she's working in her garden in rural, southern Oregon. To learn more about her work, visit: www.rcoutureart.com
