Jacob Guiser
In 1995, Jacob Guiser received a bachelor's degree with a concentration in creative writing from the University of Michigan and was awarded the 1996 Roy W. Cowden fellowship. While traveling between Maine and California for work as a guide and a ski patroller, he continued his education, becoming a wilderness emergency medical technician, studying high angle rescue, industrial rescue techniques, snow physics, avalanche control, and earning an above ground blasting license. In 2010, he was a finalist for the Lower Manhattan Cultural Center Workspace Residency. In 2009, he was awarded residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and Oxbow. Jacob spent last year in Brooklyn, New York, seeking representation for his first novel in-between business trips to Australia and Southeast Asia to assess the critical care capacity of hospitals and clinics.
