Jewelya Coffey (b.1991) is a multidisciplinary artist who makes two-dimensional and three-dimensional work. Her colorful, highly symbolic pieces play with themes of memory, grief, religion, rural life, growing up in the Ozarks, and explores the god-haunted image. 

 

Born in Searcy, Arkansas and raised in Aurora, Missouri, Coffey is an artist and educator currently living in Lincoln, Nebraska. She received her BFA from Harding University in graphic design and her MFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in painting and drawing. Her work has been most recently exhibited at Project Project, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, and Roberta and Bob Rogers Gallery in Omaha, NE, LUX Center for the Arts and Medici Gallery in Lincoln, NE, Harding University in Searcy, AR and sUgAr Gallery in Fayetteville, AR. She is currently an artist-in-residence at the LUX Center for the Arts
