Mark de Clive-Lowe
Japanese-New Zealander pianist, composer and electronic jazz pioneer Mark de Clive-Lowe melds his love for improvisation-heavy jazz with electronica, found sound and samples, weaving in narratives of ancestry, culture and mythology. LA-based since 2008 following his formative decade at the heart of London's underground music community, his collaborators have included the likes of multimedia savant Daito Manabe, tabla master Zakir Hussain and drummer extraordinaire Eric Harland.
De Clive-Lowe is a recipient of the JUSFC’s U.S.-Japan Creative Artists Fellowship and Founding Artist in Residence for Initatives of Change’s inaugural La Ceiba Festival. His 2021 project MOTHERLAND was released into the world as an NFT collection featuring a 40-minute film: an audio-visual, meditative tone-poem with de Clive-Lowe soundtracking nature footage and field recordings shot in Japan with music inspired by his deep-dive into family roots and personal relationship with Japan. Performing internationally for over 20 years and having released as many albums, along with hundreds of collaborations across numerous genres, de Clive-Lowe is an artist in a class of his own - blurring the lines between jazz and electronica and using his vast palette to share stories of the past and present.
"Way before jazz hybridity became a worldwide phenomenon, de Clive-Lowe was busy designing its blueprint.” - Jazziz
