Madeleine Bailey
Madeleine is a multidisciplinary artist and has active visual, literary and curatorial practices. Her work is a kaleidoscope of tangled family history; landscape architects and artists, haberdashers and surveyors, the green thumb passed her over but a fascination for how we are formed by and shape our natural and built environments did not. Although her collaged paintings can appear to come together quickly, her works are the result of material sketches drawn together over time as pieces of a larger puzzle.
Madeleine earned her BA from Brown University in Visual Arts, Literary Art and Cognitive Neuroscience and her MFA in painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has served as a faculty member in SAIC's Low-Residency MFA program and has participated in residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, Ox-Bow, BOLT, and ACRE. She splits her time between Chicago and NYC.
