Monica Ashton
Monica Ashton is a U.S. composer originally from New York.
She started playing piano at 3, and started writing around 5 or 6. A prodigy as a child, she took a hiatus from music during her teens, but came back to it in college. She obtained a B.A. in Music at Manhattanville College and took some composition graduate courses at SUNY Purchase. She obtained a law degree in the 90s and worked at various law firms in New York until 9/11 convinced her to get back to music. She has been a full-time musician and composer ever since.
Ms. Ashton has written several different genres of music, including jazz, film, chamber works, song cycles, instrumental pieces, Liturgical music, a musical, vocal pieces and even some dance music. In addition to being a composer, Ms. Ashton is also a producer, arranger, accompanist and teacher. She is a standing member of ASCAP.
