KHN Alum Participate in "Nine Nebraska Artists" Mural Project

Monday, August 3, 2020

A collaboration between the LUX Center for the Arts and Constellation Studios in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Nine Nebraska Artists Wheat Paste Mural was designed to highlight the woodcut print medium and each artists’ unique vision. Nine Nebraska artists were invited to design and carve their own woodblock. The resulting 9 large 24”x36” black and white prints make a composite mural that has been wheat-pasted around Lincoln. These woodblock prints are unusually striking for the strong contrast of dark and light, the captured energy of the carving marks, and the variety of images and symbols that convey timely messages and layers of meaning.

Artists:
Byron Anway, Lincoln, NE (KHN alum 2010)
Ryan Crotty, Auburn, NE (KHN exhibiting artist 2020)
Nancy Friedemann-Sánchez, Lincoln, NE (KHN exhibiting artist 2015)
Gerardo Meza, Lincoln, NE
Nathan Murray, Lincoln, NE
Kyle Nobles, Lincoln, NE
Sarah Rowe, Omaha, NE
Bart Vargas, Omaha, NE (KHN alum 2007)
Katharen Wiese, Lincoln, NE

The artwork is a temporary installation, with the paper prints attached with wheat starch (wallpaper) paste to the wall surface. The installation will be affected by weather and moisture, lasting from approximately 2 months, and will be allowed to change, as part of the ephemeral nature of the materials, the climate conditions, and time.

Murals were installed at the following locations on July 16th and will be on display through September.
