Knowledge is tenuous. It requires that it be passed down, person to person to continue existence. Whether it is through word of mouth, books, floppy disks, or the cloud, this line must continue to keep knowledge alive.

Impermanence of Knowledge: Drive Not Found looks at how we lose access to information and knowledge, particularly when the technology that renders the storage of that information becomes obsolete. Gregory T. Davis’s artistic response to this conundrum is to build imaginary machines that could recover that knowledge. “It is my goal to spark a conversation with the viewer about how we store information and the ramifications for future access as technology changes so quickly”. The exhibition includes ten black and white photographs of Davis’s invented machines and two installations, including one interactive machine.

Gregory T. Davis lives and works in Nicholasville, Kentucky. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Kentucky. Davis’s work has been exhibited throughout the United States and is held in private collections both in the US and the UK. He is a member of the College Art Association, Society for Photographic Education, Lexington Art League, and Mensa.
