Edward Martinez
Edw Martinez is a visual artist creating both two and three-dimensional art. Primarily known for his mixed-media monotypes and installation based sculpture, he returned to making small effigy objects in clay, six years ago, after a 30 year hiatus. Martinez has participated in numerous group and one person exhibitions at the regional, national and international level, including a traveling group print exhibit in all fifty US states. His art is in private, corporate and public collections. Martinez is recipient of the State of Nevada's Governor's Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts. He was a long time tenured studio arts professor, University of Nevada, retiring in 2005, and is the Department of Art Chair Emeritus. He is now a full-time artist based in Nevada's historic silver mining community of Virginia City, NV. He has been an artist in residence at the Robert MacNamara Foundation, Westport Island, ME (2007) and the Jentel Foundation, Banner, WY, (2010). Martinez attended Illinois Wesleyan University and is graduate of the University of Nevada and the University of Iowa. He has printed professionally at the Tamarind Institute, NM, Kala Institute, CA, Instituto de Artes Graficas de Oaxaca, MX and Slade School of Art and Camden Art Center , both in London, UK.
