The first half of Jennifer Karady's current project, Soldier's Stories from Iraq and Afghanistan recently debuted in a solo exhibition at SF Camerawork in San Francisco from May 6 - August 7, 2010, was profiled in The New York Times and will be featured on National Public Radio in June. SF Camerawork is also organizing a traveling exhibition to various museums and public spaces. The project was chosen for the NYFA Fiscal Sponsorship Program in 2007 and received funding from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs through the Brooklyn Arts Council in 2008. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Karady studied critical theory, art history, film and literature at Brown University from 1985-1989. Since receiving a scholarship to attain an MFA in studio art from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, in 1998, she has actively exhibited at numerous galleries, both non-profit and commercial. Her previous solo exhibitions include Momenta Art in New York City in 2005, White Columns, NYC in 2004, and The Print Center in Philadelphia in 2001. Karady has received numerous awards and residencies including two Jerome Foundation Fellowships to work in Minnesota and residencies at Yaddo, The Blue Mountain Center, The MacDowell Colony, The Millay Colony, The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, The Atlantic Center for the Arts and the Saltonstall Artist Colony. In addition to pursuing her art practice, Karady taught photography and media theory in the Media Arts Department at Long Island University in Brooklyn from 1995-2005. Her photographs have been published in several magazine features including The New York Times Magazine, GQ, New York Magazine, Blender, Discover, Newsweek, BusinessWeek, and Women's Health. Her work has also been published in two consecutive editions of Exploring Colour Photography as well as in the more recent 100 New York Photographers.
