Dan Jian
Dan Jian (b. 1986, Lichuan, China) works across painting, drawing, animation and video. Her work often draws inspiration from her environment to construct images highlighting the unfamiliarities of the commonplace. Dan received her BFA from Temple's Tyler School of Art in 2011. In 2016, Dan gained her MFA from The Ohio State University. Dan has participated in various group exhibitions and is a recipient of numerous awards, including a Certificate of Merit from the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, Philadelphia, 2013, Student Opportunity Award, "Art at Graduate School" award, Arts and Humanities Graduate Research Small Grant, Ohio State University, Columbus, 2015, and Finalist for the Don Bachardy Fellowship, London, 2017. In 2016, her work is exhibited in The Carnegie, Covington, KY, Emerge Gallery & Art Space, Saugerties, NY, and Riffe Gallery, Columbus, OH. She was visiting critic at The Art Academy of Cincinnati in 2015 and has assisted with many exhibitions, including the "Utopias and Heterotopias", the first Wuzhen International Contemporary Art Biannual " in March of 2016. Currently, Dan lives in Columbus, OH, where she works as a lecturer professor for OSU's Art Department. Dan was a recent resident at the Vermont Studio Center in August 2016.
