Kara Dunne
With a background in both printmaking and glass sculpture/installation, I have been able to formally address the issues of the 2D and 3D since the beginning of my artistic career. I received my MFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2009, and my BFA in printmaking and glassblowing from Alfred University. I also focused on Theatre, and learned the ways of the stage as an actor. I felt slightly unsatisfied by the strict rules of theatre, as well as the limitations of a gallery and its natural disconnect between artist and work after creation. I wanted to incorporate the viewer in my work and performance was a means by which the visual art and theatre could find common ground. Printmaking became a means of not only satisfying my need for creating beautiful imagery, but also a way of producing prop and costume.
