Nika Belianina
Nika Belianina was born and raised in Moscow, Russia in 1980. Upon arriving in Toronto in late 2003, Nika dove into film industry despite earning an MA in Psychology back home. Her passion for photography turned her into a lighting technician, her passion for telling stories - into a director of short films. Her 5 short films have played at various film festivals in North America, Europe and Africa and collected 3 awards altogether. Her practice counts 15+ photo exhibitions in Canada, USA and Belgium as well as an honorable mention at Julia Margaret Cameron Awards International. Her films are odd and quirky, varying in themes from dark humour fiction to docu-drama and animation. Her photographs are at times haunting and express loneliness yet with a tender touch. Through her work Nika hopes to convey the hidden magic of our surroundings and to evoke in us the thirst to dream and question.
