I am currently exploring the theme of how relocation changes our sense of identity and how identity can be tied to place. Exploring, traveling, relocating is such a common human experience yet it can be life changing. I grew up in the Midwest, receiving my BFA from Missouri State University and my MFA Indiana University but have lived and taught in a variety of locations including Alabama, Detroit and remote Alaska. I am challenged by as well as inspired by travel and relocation. In my drawings/paintings, objects can have dual roles of being both sources of security while also being a burden. They represent what makes our spaces feel like home, the physical reminders of memories, identity and so many other things. Groups of figures form exploration parties and all have different reactions to be the unknown. Some work together, some work just for themselves.
