The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City is pleased to present Symbol & Narration, an exhibition of mixed media works by Marcia Joffe-Bouska, beginning Saturday, January 10, and remaining on exhibit through Thursday, March 5, 2009.

Marcia Joffe-Bouska’s colorful sculptural works layer common imagery – rich in symbolism and associations – with organic forms, found objects, and both traditional and nontraditional media and techniques. Joffe-Bouska’s use of cultural icons infuses her work with personal as well as universal meaning.

A long-time resident of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Joffe-Bouska received a BA in art and art education from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa, and an MA in painting and drawing from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

Joffe-Bouska has exhibited in solo and group shows throughout the country and is represented in numerous corporate, public, and private collections including the Omaha Children’s Museum, the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Glenwood (Iowa) Resource Center, and Clarinda  (Iowa) Treatment Complex. Her glass mosaic, Missouri River Transit, part of the Icon Interpretive Sculpture Project/Lewis and Clark Bicentennial is located at Dodge Riverside Golf Club in Council Bluffs. In Council Bluffs, her window designs can be seen at Queen of Apostles Church, St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Alegent Hospital, St. Xavier Chapel, and Abstract Guaranty Co.

Having taught art workshops to people of all ages, many through the Iowa and Nebraska Arts Councils’ Artists in Schools and Communities programs, Marcia currently serves as the teaching artist for the Sheldon Art Museum Statewide “Particles to Planets” touring exhibition and workshops.

Symbol and Narration opens with the artist’s public reception on Saturday, January 10, from 1 – 3 p.m. and runs through Thursday, March 5, 2009. The artist’s works are available for purchase, and guests at the Saturday reception will be treated to the Center’s homemade ice
