Construct
Mixed Media Sculptures and Drawings by Mary Day
Monday, August 23 - Thursday, October 14, 2010

Construct presents an exhibition of drawings and mixed media sculptures by Omaha artist, Mary Day.

Day uses concepts of neuroscience as an investigative model to draw and then build objects made of wood and reed. She says, “I have drawn all my life and use drawing now as an exploratory process for building three-dimensional forms. The drawing activity has a rhythm and movement that connects my body and mind. As the gestures are developed they establish a spatial construct for conceptualizing 3-D space.”

Mary Day is a multi-media artist living and working in Omaha, Nebraska. She received her BA in Art History and Photography and an MFA in Painting from Florida State University. She is a recipient of a 2010 Individual Artist Fellowship from the Nebraska Arts Council. Recent exhibitions include a solo show in 2010 at the Fred Simon Gallery and inclusion in the 2009 Jackson Artworks Mark Makers Invitational. Her work is included in several public and private collections including the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery (Lincoln, NE), Pillsbury Company (St. Paul, MN) and Metropolitan Community College in Omaha.

The public is invited to meet Mary Day at a reception on Saturday, September 18, from 2 – 4 p.m. The reception coincides with AppleJack Festival activities. Construct will remain on exhibit through Thursday, October 14, 2010.
